Scientific Integrity

Scientific integrity refers to the set of values and rules that ensure honesty and rigor in research and higher education. It is essential to the cohesion of research communities and to maintaining the public’s trust in science. To promote a culture of scientific integrity throughout our university, we have established a scientific integrity officer and a scientific integrity committee.

Respect for the core values of scientific integrity

Beyond the specific characteristics of disciplinary approaches, scientific integrity is based on common principles that apply to research in all its phases: the development of knowledge, its dissemination, student training, expertise, and evaluation.

The European Code of Conduct for Integrity in Research highlights their fundamental importance:
  • Reliability in design, methodology, analysis, and the use of resources.
  • Honesty in the design, conduct, evaluation, and dissemination of research, in a transparent, fair, comprehensive, and objective manner.
  • Respect for colleagues, research participants, society, ecosystems, cultural heritage, and the environment.
  • Responsibility for research activities—from conception to publication—including their management and organization; for training, supervision, and mentoring; and for the broader implications of research.

The Scientific Integrity Officer

It carries out the following tasks:
  • Promote a culture of scientific integrity throughout the university.
  • To provide answers to questions raised by researchers regarding scientific integrity.
  • Receive reports of breaches of scientific integrity and handle them fairly.

The Scientific Integrity Committee

Alongside the scientific integrity officer, a multidisciplinary scientific integrity committee representing the disciplinary diversity of the Université Grenoble Alpes helps review cases and ensures a collegial approach.
