Energy: New Ways to Generate, Store, and Consume It

Scientific solutions to accelerate the energy transition: renewable energy, energy efficiency, smart grids, and decarbonization.
Faced with the climate emergency and the need to guarantee carbon-free, independent, and accessible energy, Université Grenoble Alpes has made energy one of its major fields of excellence. Drawing on a scientific ecosystem that is unique in Europe, it brings together researchers, educators, industry leaders, and local authorities to develop the technologies, knowledge, and skills required to sustainably transform how we produce, store, and consume energy.

A Unique Scientific Ecosystem Supporting the Energy Transition

Grenoble features a concentration of laboratories and large-scale research facilities unlike anywhere else in France.

Université Grenoble Alpes collaborates directly with:

  • CEA-Liten
One of Europe's leading research centers dedicated to new energy technologies (solar, batteries, hydrogen).
  • Major European research facilities
The synchrotron and neutron source at the Institut Laue-Langevin make it possible to analyze materials (such as the electrodes of a battery in operation) to understand their wear and tear at the atomic level.
  • The G2Elab laboratory
This Université Grenoble Alpes laboratory is a global reference for smart grids and electrification.

Scientific Programs

  • PowerAlps
Power electronics: the driving force behind the decarbonization of electricity
  • LabEx EnergyAlps
This Laboratory of Excellence brings together physicists, economists, and engineers to address energy not merely as a technical challenge, but as a societal issue (energy conservation, economic models).
