EnergyAlps

LabEx
Conducting groundbreaking research by bringing together multidisciplinary teams to address the technological and societal challenges of the second electrification revolution.
Subject Areas:
Electrical engineering, power electronics, applied mathematics, digital sciences, humanities and social sciences related to energy.

Main Areas of Focus

The EnergyAlps LabEx is organized around four challenges:
  • The planning and control of resilient electrical systems in an unstable, uncertain, and highly variable environment, across multiple temporal, spatial, and societal scales.
  • Regulation, governance, and ownership of low-carbon, efficient, and diversified energy systems (communities, behaviors, pricing, etc.).
  • The deployment of a digital architecture for the monitoring and control of smart grids that is secure, reliable, cost-effective, reconfigurable, and plug-and-play, with stringent requirements regarding real-time performance, stakeholder adoption, and stakeholder strategies.
  • The development of ultra-wide-gap power electronics—from materials to converters—for renewable energy production and new applications, including business models and industrial and organizational barriers.
These challenges are complemented by two cross-cutting themes focusing on:
  • Observations and data—including representative time series—on production, distribution, and uses.
  • Multiscale and multidisciplinary methods and tools, using mathematical and simulation-based approaches, for the study of the energy transition.
