The HR Excellence in Research Certification Process

In 2019, the University ofUniversité Grenoble Alpes s (UGA) began the process of obtaining certification under the European “Human Resources Strategy for Researchers” (HRS4R) procedure. In June 2023, it submitted a mid-term evaluation report that assessed its progress, challenges, and the changes needed for the 2023–2026 period.

Why pursue the HR Excellence in Research label?

By committing to this certification process, the UGA demonstrates strong political will and alignment with its institutional strategy, particularly its human resources master plan and its gender equality action plan.

Improving Working Conditions and Attractiveness

The action plan is part of the UGA's strategic plan, specifically Priority Area 3: "Through responsible employer practices, make the UGA and its constituent units a place where staff can share ideas, thrive, take initiative, and learn".

Earning this certification also helps enhance UGA’s appeal and international reputation, particularly when it comes to recruiting staff. In fact, on the European job portal Euraxess Jobs, the label allows candidates to identify work environments that are particularly stimulating and supportive of researchers.

An asset for European funding

The certification is a significant asset in securing funding from "Horizon Europe," Europe’s flagship program for funding research and development activities. The funding agreement refers to the charter, particularly with regard to working conditions, the promotion of gender equality, recruitment processes, and career development.

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) promote the European Charter for Researchers by making participation in the program contingent on adherence to its principles.
