Combating Racism and Anti-Semitism

At Université Grenoble Alpes, we are committed to preventing racism and anti-Semitism, protecting and supporting victims and witnesses of racism and anti-Semitism, and processing reports of racist and anti-Semitic incidents.

Racism, anti-Semitism—what are we talking about?

Racism and anti-Semitism are ideologies based on stereotypes and prejudices—that is, shared opinions about a group or an individual belonging to a group.

Racism and anti-Semitism manifest themselves through a continuum acts ranging from verbal abuse to physical violence, including exclusion, intimidation, harassment, and threats—both in person and online. Racist and anti-Semitic behavior encompasses all actions directed against a person or group of people, motivated by their origin or their actual or perceived membership—or lack thereof—in an ethnic group, a so-called race, a nation, or a religion.

Racist and anti-Semitic acts and statements are criminal offenses, as well as conduct subject to disciplinary action at the university. The racist or anti-Semitic nature of a criminally punishable act constitutes an aggravating circumstance that increases the applicable penalty.

Discrimination based on race or anti-Semitism is also legally recognized.
