Combating Discrimination

At the University ofUniversité Grenoble Alpes (UGA), we are committed to preventing discrimination, protecting and supporting victims and witnesses of discrimination, and addressing reports of discrimination.

Discrimination: What Are We Talking About?

Discrimination is characterized by three elements:
  1. Unequal and unfavorable treatment of a person or group of people.
  2. Based on a criterion defined by law (there are 26 such criteria, including: origin, physical appearance, last name, actual or perceived affiliation with a race, ethnicity, nation, or religion, the ability to speak a language other than French, sexual orientation, and gender identity).
  3. This manifests itself as an act, a practice, or a rule in a professional context or in relation to access to a public or private good or service (for example: refusal to hire, unequal pay, refusal to grant an internship, or denial of access to university facilities).
All of the grounds for discrimination are available on the website service-public.fr.

Discrimination is a criminal offense, and grounds for discrimination constitute aggravating circumstances for the penalties imposed.
