The European Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HR Excellence in Research)

At theUniversité Grenoble Alpes, we have been committed to the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) initiative since 2019. In 2021, we were awarded the European “HR in Excellence in Research” label. This label is awarded to institutions that implement a human resources strategy consistent with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers.
The HRS4R initiative is part of the institution’s overall strategy. It consists of a long-term commitment based on a voluntary, structured, and periodically audited process centered on three-year evaluation cycles. The certification is granted for a period of three years, after which it must be renewed.

With our certification valid through 2026, we have already begun the process of renewing the certification for a new three-year cycle (through 2029). The internal evaluation has begun, and an on-site audit will be conducted by experts from the European Commission by fall 2026.

In 2023, the European Commission published the new European Charter for Researchers. As a signatory to the charter, we have committed to implementing its 20 principles in our HR strategy. The goal is to improve working conditions, training, and recruitment for researchers and faculty members, and to help make these professions more attractive.
