CyberAlps

Addressing Cybersecurity Challenges by Bringing Technology and the Social Sciences Together
CyberAlps (formerly the Cybersecurity Institute) aims to promote and coordinate research designed to address the strategic challenges of cybersecurity and resilience through a multidisciplinary approach, based on an innovative, holistic methodology that closely integrates scientific research with technological developments, drawing on international scientific collaborations as well as strong partnerships with the private sector and leading institutions in France and around the world.

The Issues

In light of the rise in cybercrime and cyberattacks—which pose a major challenge to the future of our societies, their resilience, and their security— CyberAlps aims to provide viable and sustainable solutions that ensure end-to-end digital security, ranging from embedded hardware security to data sovereignty and cybersecurity regulation, including the analysis of new threats, privacy protection, and tools for evaluation and cryptanalysis.

Interdisciplinarity

CyberAlps conducts research on topics at the intersection of numerous disciplines. It is unique in that it brings together 14 laboratories and more than 100 researchers from diverse backgrounds (mathematics, computer science, microelectronics, law, economics, management, political science, and more) who are convinced of the importance of multidisciplinary research and collaboration in the strategic field of cybersecurity.

A Transformative Project

CyberAlps aims to advance multidisciplinary research in cybersecurity for the benefit of all. Adopting a cross-fertilization approach, it is actively engaged in the local, regional, and national ecosystems—not only in the field of scientific research but also in education—and serves as a vital interface between science, the economy, education, and governance.

A national and international reach

Launched in 2021, the 1-billion-euro plan aimed at strengthening France’s cyberdefense includes the development of innovative, sovereign cybersecurity solutions and the strengthening of ties among various stakeholders to enhance France’s international standing. Through many of its researchers and laboratories, CyberAlps is closely involved with the Cybersecurity Priority Research Program and Equipment (PEPR-Cyber) led by the CNRS, the CEA, and INRIA.

To increase the visibility of the Grenoble site

Through its size; the multidisciplinary and holistic nature of its research; its numerous regional, national, and international collaborations and partnerships with key players in cybersecurity; and the number and quality of its publications and presentations, CyberAlps provides the Grenoble campus with first-rate visibility in the field of cybersecurity.
