A collective commitment to preserving life and transforming our campuses
Sustainable Development
Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) is introducing a comprehensive Biodiversity Plan to preserve, restore, and promote living ecosystems across all its campuses.
The result of a broad consultation process involving staff, students, laboratories, administrative departments, and local stakeholders, this plan permanently embeds biodiversity at the heart of the university’s policies, missions, and operations.
It reflects a clear ambition: to make UGA’s campuses exemplary places that balance academic excellence, environmental responsibility, and quality of life.
5 strategic priorities
Integrating Biodiversity into UGA Policies
Ensure that all of the institution’s policy documents and decisions are aligned with biodiversity issues, strengthen dedicated governance, and highlight the actions already underway to make biodiversity a defining feature of UGA’s identity.
Raise awareness, provide information, and support action
Foster a culture of biodiversity among students, staff, and citizens; encourage individual and collective initiatives; and strengthen partnerships with local stakeholders to take action at all levels.
Integrating biodiversity into the core of research and educational missions
Supporting interdisciplinary research, reducing the environmental impact of scientific and educational activities, and integrating biodiversity issues into educational curricula across all disciplines.
Preserving and Enhancing Biodiversity on UGA Campuses
Implementing a sustainable development strategy across all campuses: limiting land development, restoring ecological connectivity, increasing green spaces, and making university campuses true models of best practices.
Harnessing Nature-Based Solutions
Leveraging ecosystems to address climate challenges, mitigate risks (heat, flooding), improve the well-being and quality of life of staff and students, and strengthen campus resilience.
With this biodiversity plan, UGA reaffirms its social responsibility and its role as a scientific and regional leader in the preservation of biodiversity. The plan engages the entire university community in a collective, evolving, and measurable effort to create a university that is more sustainable, more attractive, and more mindful of the balance of life.
