A Responsible Procurement Policy

A university’s economic impact is reflected, in particular, in its procurement practices. At the University ofUniversité Grenoble Alpes (UGA), our goal is to continue and expand the integration of environmental, social inclusion, and regional issues into our procurement policy, while complying with regulations. Environmental and social provisions, as well as the importance of the local economy and short supply chains, are now integral parts of every procurement policy.

Procurement and the Social and Solidarity Economy

Since the 2005 Equal Opportunity Act, a reevaluation of practices and a shift in approach have enabled the university’s procurement departments to diversify their list of service providers in order to support businesses that promote the employment of people traditionally excluded from the labor market. The university is committed to strengthening this close ties with the social and solidarity economy.

Sustainable Purchasing

The procurement policy should incorporate the concept of product sustainability as much as possible and prevent products from becoming obsolete too quickly. It should also streamline the purchase of supplies by empowering our community. Finally, it should ensure that waste is reduced.

One of the university’s strengths is the diversity of its stakeholders. In terms of procurement, this results in a certain degree of fragmentation among buyers. One of the major challenges of the university’s procurement policy is to disseminate best practices as effectively as possible to as many people as possible.

To this end, the 2023–2025 Procurement Policy serves to formalize and share with the entire university community the guiding principles that govern responsible procurement at UGA.
