Throughout the year, we invite you to participate in events designed to make science accessible, engaging, and exciting for everyone. From lectures by world-renowned figures to festivals and science outreach challenges, discover a rich and varied program.
Exceptional Lectures: A Meeting with the Greatest Scientific Minds
Two to three times a year, we organize exceptional conferences to make major scientific advances accessible to everyone. We invite world-renowned figures (Nobel laureates, Fields Medalists, etc.) to discuss a variety of topics—from sustainable economics to exoplanets—and to foster dialogue with students and the general public in the Grenoble metropolitan area. These events, which have already attracted thousands of participants, go beyond the lecture itself: they also provide an opportunity for these experts to meet with our doctoral students and speak to high school students, thereby ensuring the essential transfer of knowledge across generations.
Alain Aspect, 2022 Nobel Laureate in Physics, Delivers Special Lecture at UGA.
On October 3, 2025, Alain Aspect was invited to deliver a special lecture on the Saint-Martin-d’Hères campus. More than 800 people gathered in the Weil Auditorium for the event. It was also an opportunity to gather audience feedback after the lecture and to hear from the UGA’s Vice President for Culture and Scientific Culture.
Science Festival
Every October, this event—open to everyone—is a true festival that celebrates science in all its forms. It’s a wonderful opportunity for researchers and the public to meet and exchange ideas. At the “Université Grenoble Alpes,” a large number of researchers, engineers, technicians, students, and science communicators offer a rich and varied program that covers all disciplines.
Summarizing years of research in three minutes—in a simple and engaging way—before a panel of professionals and an audience of non-specialists: this is the challenge facing all French-speaking doctoral students in the international competition “My Thesis in 180 Seconds.”
Beyond its almost “theatrical” nature, this competition allows participating doctoral students to strengthen their skills in science communication and outreach, with the goal of forging new connections with society and increasing the visibility of their research.
Recognizing the many challenges involved in such an endeavor, the Doctoral College of theUniversité Grenoble Alpes offers candidates the opportunity to participate in specialized training designed to prepare them as thoroughly as possible for the big day.
First launched in Grenoble, the “Rencontres montagnes et sciences” events now take place annually in several cities across the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Held during the Ciné Montagne festival week, the Mountains and Science Meetings are a gathering for those who want to see the mountains in a different light: adventure is always there—from the Alps to Patagonia, from glaciers to volcanoes, from freeriding to caving—but here, the challenge is scientific.
This international event, held simultaneously in about 100 countries and more than 120 cities in France, aims to raise public awareness of the importance of brain research. It provides an opportunity for many researchers, doctors, and student volunteers to meet with the public and share with them the advances made in neuroscience research laboratories, as well as to discuss the challenges involved in understanding the brain and the implications for our society.
The lecture series at the Maison des sciences humaines Alpes
MSH-Alpes regularly hosts social events open to everyone. You can participate for free in several lecture series: Central Avenue to explore ideas in the humanities, 1-hour counseling session to discover the secrets of psychology, or even Good Thread to understand the mechanisms of well-being.
On the last Tuesday of every month, come discover what goes on behind the scenes of research at Sciences Po Grenoble over a cup of coffee. In a friendly and stimulating atmosphere, two speakers will present their projects or latest publications for 15 minutes, followed by a discussion open to everyone. It’s the perfect opportunity to learn about the institute’s latest scientific developments in a relaxed setting and chat freely with the people behind them.
