Background and Issues

LabEx Architectures brings together a diverse group of scientists and practitioners who form a pool of complementary expertise dedicated to eco-responsible projects rooted in networks of local stakeholders, local and solidarity-based socioeconomic systems, and regional ecosystems.

Main Areas of Focus

The scientific project is structured around three main areas:
  1. Tangible and intangible heritage—including its practical significance, representations, and discourses—is examined in light of contemporary societal issues here and elsewhere.
  2. Habitability and the Experiences of Living. Habitability will be examined through the lens of quality, adaptability, culture, experience, and the interplay of different actors.
  3. The architecture and territorial planning project aims to examine the nature and processes of projects and initiatives in research in architecture, urban planning, land-use planning, and design. It will also explore forms of entrepreneurship in the region, the role of social impact enterprises, and financing mechanisms. This research track will rely in particular on innovative approaches such as reverse engineering, reverse design, modeling, prototyping, and inhabited demonstrators. This LabEx project closely integrates research, hands-on training, and knowledge transfer. It is based on the idea that the design and creation of physical or process-based demonstrators are methods for conducting fundamental and praxeological research.
