Enigmass+

LabEx
To shed light on the great mysteries of fundamental physics, at the intersection of particle physics, high-energy astrophysics, and cosmology.
Research Areas:
Particles and interactions, astroparticles, cosmology, instrumentation and detectors, modeling and theory.

Background and Issues

The Enigmass+ LabEx plays a central role in the Enigmass+ research consortium (CNRS, Université Grenoble Alpes, Université Savoie Mont Blanc), which brings together more than 100 researchers.

Objectives

Despite remarkable recent advances in particle physics, high-energy astrophysics, and cosmology, several mysteries in fundamental physics remain unresolved today:

  • How do particles acquire their mass?
  • Why is there more matter than antimatter in the universe?
  • What are the nature of dark matter and dark energy?
  • How does matter behave under extreme conditions?

The scientific objective is to shed light on these questions in fundamental physics by organizing research in these areas at the regional level and by supporting teams' participation in major international projects in this field.
