MateriAlps

LabEx
Design new materials with enhanced performance, within a framework of sustainable development, with a focus on end-of-life considerations and their impact on material properties and composition choices.
Topics:
Materials, sustainable development.

Background and Issues

MateriAlps promotes materials science as a discipline in its own right at the Grenoble site, bringing together physicists, chemists, physical chemists, metallurgists, mechanical engineers, biologists, and others…

Its research will focus on materials of various types and at different scales (complex materials and crystals, nanostructured materials and thin films, engineered materials, functional materials, structural materials, hybrid materials, and bio-based materials) for a wide range of application sectors (energy, transportation, the environment, life sciences, etc.). This research will draw on recent advances in digital technology—including modeling, simulation, data management, and artificial intelligence—as well as advanced fabrication processes (crystallization, synthesis and deposition, additive manufacturing), multiscale characterization platforms (CMTC, PFNC), and strong synergies with major research instruments to optimize the performance and sustainability of these new materials.
