Tec 21

LabEx
To advance knowledge and technologies in mechanical and process engineering in order to develop a new generation of predictive design and decision-support tools.
Topics:
Mechanics, processes, engineering, technology.

Background and Issues

With 9 partner laboratories and more than 200 researchers, LabEx Tec21 is developing a research strategy based on innovative multiscale and multiphysical approaches, as well as strong synergy between modeling, experimentation, and simulation. By fostering the emergence of multidisciplinary groups, promoting international collaborations, and attracting top-level experts and promising young researchers, LabEx Tec21 shapes and enhances the appeal of Grenoble’s scientific community in mechanics and process engineering.

LabEx Tec21 supports technology transfer to the socio-economic sector by fostering collaborations between academic laboratories and industry in seven main application areas: environmental engineering, health, processes, biorefinery, civil engineering, space and aerospace, and energy.

LabEx Tec21 also promotes education by rapidly incorporating research advances into bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, funding pre-doctoral fellowships, and offering continuing education opportunities for researchers and engineers.

Extended through 2032, LabEx Tec21 remains at the forefront of scientific advances by focusing on the study of bio-physical-chemical interfaces and couplings, mechanics of and for living systems, and the integration of AI-based methods and tools.

Objectives

Focused on the engineering of complexity in the field of mechanics and its interfaces, these new decision-support tools will address issues related to sustainable development, resource conservation, risk management, and public health.
